In her complaint, the Noida-based woman claimed that she was contacted over an IVR call and told that a mobile phone SIM card was purchased using her Aadhaar card in Mumbai. Her card was used for illegal ads and harassment of women. Then the woman was informed over the call that she was involved in another allegation of money laundering for which an FIR had been registered against her and an arrest warrant issued by the Supreme Court.
The victim was continually told not to leave the house and not inform anyone else ! The perpetrators, employing an IVR call, falsely implicated the woman in a series of crimes, leading to her being a victim of a fraud of Rs. 11.11 lakh, besides being ‘digitally arrested’ from morning to night.
This chilling incident underscores the dangers of this evolving threat, where individuals find themselves confined within the walls of their digital existence, manipulated and coerced into compliance.
