internet. **This article only showcases our perspective towards life without the internet** So let’s get started!! The Internet is not one of the essentials. Come on, we can live without the internet. It’s not water, oxygen, shelter, and food… right? But honestly the internet has become the backbone of today’s life. People cannot function without using their phone first thing in the morning, whether it’s for reading news or checking their friends’ text or emails. The internet is a vast place, over 53% of the world’s population uses the internet. What you are reading right now is also on the internet. A variety of sectors would be affected if the internet disappeared. If we talk about the finance sector, Life has become so much easier with the online transactions we make day to day. But what if these transactions couldn’t be placed, and you had to only opt for cash payments? Along with this, it would be so difficult to manage the bank accounts. We would revert to the time of checkbook and passbooks and would have to visit or make calls to the bank to know the balance. Imagine taking couple of hours of leave to visit a bank, fill the withdrawal slip, stand-in a line to withdraw 5000 Rs from the cashier sitting in a closed metallic cubical with a small glass window to slip in the cash. Millennials may find it hard to believe but that was the life till 90’s . All this has disappeared since the launching of different apps which connect directly to our banks and help us go cashless. There isn’t any wastage of paper in printing check books or pass books to know your account balance. Now you simply have to just tap twice and all the required details are in front of you. Maps and Routes: If you are someone who enjoys exploring, then I’m sure google maps is your best friend. But what if google maps didn’t exist? You would still ask the people on the roads for direction and mostly end up in some different or wrong destination. But the internet has made all the maps all around the world available to you on the small screen you have right now in your hand. So, it’s still think you can survive without the internet? Well, if you do, we still have a couple of reasons which would make you believe that there is no life without the internet. Lack of Information: Let me ask you a question… who invented computers? Well, some of you may know the answer, but some of you would want to search it up on the INTERNET! So obviously if the internet wouldn’t have been there it would have been so difficult to find information, especially since we all are so restless and want immediate answers. Would you want to go to the library and then search hundreds of books for the perfect answer or would you simply search it in on google or your preferred search engine? It would be so difficult to find information if the internet didn’t exist. Imagine you got a research paper as your assignment. Are you ready to go through tons of books and reference papers to complete your assignment? Honestly, I am not! Working: Gone are the days when you print or verbally share everything. This was all possible because of the internet. Everything would become so slow and would take up a lot of time to complete the simplest of tasks. Whether you want to share it overseas or to your client in the adjacent city, you would need a hard copy, thus wasting paper & then mailing it physically in post office or courier services. Commerce: Do you enjoy shopping? Whom am I kidding? Everyone likes to shop! In this pandemic time, all the shopping was possible on e-commerce sites. That was also possible only because of the internet. With the help of the internet, you can order your loved dress or apparel from the other end of the world. But if the internet didn’t exist, shopping would be so limited. You could only shop in your area or in your city. It wouldn’t be possible to grab the attention of the entire world. The internet has brought us all together. Whether it’s with the ability to translate to any language or if it’s because we can connect through social media. We have incorporated the internet in our lives more than we had ever anticipated. The internet has done wonderful things for us. Though yes, like every situation has two sides, or pros and cons. So does the internet. The internet brought us together, rather brought strangers together. It has also separated the families. It’s become so much easier to just sit in our room and not talk to anyone else other than our internet friends. The internet has also made it much easier to lie or bluff, fake identities, etc. Cyber attacks & data theft have ruined the beauty of the internet to some extent. But still the internet has given so much to us, all the information we can think of is available on the internet. At the End: We don’t think life would be easy without the internet. It would become so difficult to perform the simplest of tasks also. So, let’s be thankful to have the internet in our lives. It is an ingredient we didn’t know we needed until we tasted it. If we can use it safely, it’s a boon. About SNS : Secure Network Solutions (SNS) is a Cyber Security focused company and has been helping businesses use the internet safely for the last 21 years.
